Wonderful to have super new clients

CEO Trevor Winckworth (in conversation with Paul O’Mahony on 24 February 2017)

Good News

There is good news about new business from In Hand Guides.

“This is very good news.  Our souvenir Audioplayers are a success in three new places.  You can say In Hand Guides is going places.”

Italy, Spain & USA are where the new clients are.

In this interview, Trevor gives details of the three new locations In Hand Guides will serve.

(1) Location Italy

The new client is Cinque Terre Tourism Board.

The tourist board has commissioned 4,000 Souvenir Audioplayers – in 5 languages: English, Italian, French, German & Spanish (not in Mandarin or Cantonese.)

Where & what is Cinque Terre?
“Cinque Terre is a string of centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline. In each of the 5 towns, colorful houses and vineyards cling to steep terraces, harbors are filled with fishing boats and trattorias turn out seafood specialties along with the Liguria region’s famous sauce, pesto. The Sentiero Azzurro cliffside hiking trail links the villages and offers sweeping sea vistas.

UNESCO World Heritage Site inscription: 1997

Trevor says

“This is an important extension of our souvenir Audioguides into Italy – a great country to visit – and Cinque Terre’s one of the biggest attractions there in Tuscany.”

The contract with Cinque Terre
came via an introduction from Genoa Tourist Board.

Genoa is already a client of In Hand Guides. They have already re-ordered souvenir Audioplayer guides.  The Genoa guides are mainly for tourists who come from cruise liners. (Genoa is a very important port for cruise ships.)

(2) Another location is in Spain – the Camino

The Camino de Santiago is a network of routes from every major city in Europe that lead to Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain

The Camino de Santiago is a network of routes from every major city in Europe that lead to Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain

A new souvenir Audioplayer for the Camino Way will ship next week.  Trevor says it’s “testing the waters – a new idea.

Commissioned by an Irish company – a booking agent in Dublin books 30,000 people annually who walk the Way.

(More than 260,000 pilgrims finished the Camino in 2016.  45% of pilgrims come from Spain. Ireland is the country with the highest percentage of population that walk the Camino. 2.5 million people visit Santiago de Compostela (where the Camino ends) annually.)

This souvenir audio guide
will cover the last 30 kilometres on the way into Santiago. It will provide information about the Camino & local dishes you find along the Way.

A Spanish person with local knowledge
will voice the Audioplayer. The guide will sell online and in local sites.

(3) Another client is in USA

Everglades National Park, Florida – visited by one million visitors every year. This big order is for 50,000 Souvenir Audioplayers. Script will be supplied by Everglades – voiced by an American (first time there’s been an American voice on In Hand Guides).

In Hand Guides has an agent in USA. He’s been working on this since January 2017 and also having discussions with other US National Parks.

Support from Enterprise Ireland

Enterprise Ireland (EI) “Acceleration Package” pays 50% of the cost of hiring the agent.

You can hear Trevor explain how the scheme works. “A great package – talk to EI about it.
